milo Insider Digest #1: Buffett buys a homebuilder, and a director buys into his company’s debt week

Data sources for this issue. Insider buys: SEC EDGAR Form 4 filings, filtered to open-market purchases (transaction code “P”), filed Oct 2–9, 2026, and parsed straight from the filings. Congress: official House Clerk Periodic Transaction Reports (disclosures-clerk.house.gov) filed in September 2026. 8-Ks: EDGAR company filings. Every figure links to its filing. Dollar values are shares × reported price, summed across that week’s filings; where a filing reports a weighted-average price, so do we.

    Week of Oct 5–9, 2026

Over 5,000 Form 4s hit EDGAR this week. Most were option exercises, grants, tax withholding and plan sales, which is paperwork, not opinion. Very few were insiders paying market price with their own cash. Those are the ones below.

    Insider buys worth your attention

Bar chart of the top 10 companies by insider buying in Form 4s filed Oct 2-9, 2026, led by Lennar at $192.6M
Top 10 companies by reported insider purchases, Form 4s filed Oct 2–9. Source: SEC EDGAR.

Lennar (LEN): Berkshire Hathaway, about $192.6M.
2,418,637 Class A shares bought Oct 1–2 at roughly $77–82 (weighted averages), filed Oct 5. After this, Berkshire subsidiaries hold 28,438,045 Class A shares. Berkshire is a 10% owner, not an employee, so this is an outside investor’s conviction, not insider knowledge. Still, it’s the biggest open-market check of the week, and it’s going into housing. Form 4

Borr Drilling (BORR): director Tor Olav Trøim, about $18.0M.
4,250,000 shares across Oct 5–7 at $4.13–4.31, through Drew Holdings, an entity owned by a trust of which he’s the beneficiary. Three straight days of buying in an offshore driller is the most deliberate-looking pattern on the list. Form 4

Corebridge Financial (CRBG): Nippon Life, about $42.7M.
1,248,331 shares bought Oct 1–7, which takes it to about 127.4M shares. Read the footnote: these purchases run under a Rule 10b5-1 plan adopted Aug 7, 2026. That means a pre-scheduled program, not a reaction to this week. It’s still steady accumulation, just not a signal. Form 4

H.B. Fuller (FUL): director R. Jeffrey Bailly, $500,000.
10,000 shares at $50.00 on Oct 7. The timing is what makes it interesting: that same week the company priced $850M of 7.625% notes due 2034 to fund its Advanced Medical Solutions acquisition (see 8-Ks below). A director buying stock into a debt raise is a vote for the deal. Form 4

Sonic Automotive (SAH): Paul P. Rusnak, about $3.8M.
64,221 shares at $59.50–59.90 across Oct 1–7, filed in several batches. Repeat filings by the same buyer within a week deserve more weight than one big print. Form 4

Immersion (IMMR): CEO Eric Singer, $292,800.
41,000 shares at $7.11–7.15 on Oct 7, the same day as the annual meeting, where say-on-pay passed by only 10.8M votes for to 9.2M against. A CEO buying the day shareholders nearly reject his pay package is either confidence or optics. Probably some of both. Form 4

Hormel (HRL): director William Newlands, $201,000.
10,000 shares at $20.10 on Oct 5, a week after Hormel signed a $1.055B cash deal to buy Brakebush. A small check by Berkshire standards, but a director buying right after a billion-dollar acquisition is worth noting. Form 4

One that looks like a signal and isn’t. About 30 Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM) executives each filed a “purchase” on Oct 7 at the same $79.39, most of them for $2,000–$11,000. The footnote says the employee stock purchase plan bought these shares on predetermined terms. If a screener shows you “30 TSMC insiders buying”, this is why.

Congress: what got disclosed (and how late)

These are September filings to the House Clerk. The trades themselves happened weeks earlier, and the reports give dollar ranges, not exact amounts. Treat this as history, not a tip.

    • Rep. Rick Allen (R-GA), spouse’s account: bought Broadcom (AVGO) and Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM) ($1,001–$15,000 each) and sold Rollins (ROL) ($15,001–$50,000). Traded Aug 12, disclosed Sep 15, a 34-day lag. PTR
    • Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK): a run of Boston Scientific (BSX) sales across family trusts, the largest $50,001–$100,000 each, Aug 31–Sep 9, plus partial Apple (AAPL) sales. PTR
    • Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX), spouse’s IRA: sold Apple (AAPL), $100,001–$250,000, on Sep 22, disclosed the same day. That speed is rare. PTR
    • Rep. Sheri Biggs (R-SC), spouse’s managed account: a $500,001–$1,000,000 structured note tied to the S&P 500 (SPX), bought Sep 1, after selling a same-size note tied to the energy-sector ETF XLE on Aug 19. Read loosely, it’s a rotation out of energy and into the broad index. PTR

Our honest take: by the time you can read these, the market has had a month. The useful part is the pattern over many filings, not any single trade.

    8-Ks worth reading

    • H.B. Fuller, Oct 5 and Oct 8. It launched a $950M note offering for the AMS acquisition, then priced it at $850M at 7.625%. That’s smaller than launched, at a coupon that tells you what credit costs right now. Read it next to the director’s $500K buy above. Oct 5 8-K · Oct 8 8-K
    • Hormel, Sep 30. A deal to acquire Brakebush Brothers for $1.055B in cash, expected to close in Q1 of fiscal 2027, pending antitrust clearance. 8-K
    • Prothena (PRTA), Oct 2. Its Chief Development Officer resigned to join a strategic partner and lead a program partnered with Prothena. That same week William Scully bought about $2.68M of PRTA (315,000 shares, Form 4). An executive leaving while a big holder buys is a contrast worth watching. 8-K
